International Summer Science Camp in the Galilee - 2008 How would you like to: Help develop a vaccine for cancer? Use microorganisms to break down organic waste? Work with a research group that is trying to engineer healthy protein rich plants? Isolate active natural compounds from plants? Use state-of-the-art DNA scanning techniques to identify illness-causing mutations in human beings? This could become a reality if you join us this summer at Migal's International Summer Science Camp in Israel. Participate in a number of research workshops in the fields of biotechnology, applied medicine, molecular biology, chemistry, ecology, agriculture and environmental science. Get hands-on experience in cutting-edge fields of research. Work alongside professionals, who will be there to answer your questions. Use sophisticated lab equipment. Learn how to prepare and give an effective scientific presentation. Fun in the Galilee You will have a week of science and fun with your Israeli peers. Your days will be packed with social activities, hikes and tours, such as: Kayaking down the Jordan Bicycle trip in the Hula Valley Visit the Sea of Galilee Hike through a source of the Jordan River Visit beautiful nature reserves Go bowling or ice skating in Metulla When Session 1: July 20 - 24, 2008 Session 2: July 27 - 31, 2008 Session 3: August 3 - 7, 2008 If you would like to attend two consecutive sessions, that can most likely be arranged. If you wish to extend your stay, we can offer you a few alternatives. Accommodations You will stay at the Tel Hai youth hostel, overlooking the Hula Valley, which is one of the most peaceful and beautiful regions in Israel. The views around you will be unforgettable: Mt. Hermon to the North, the Golan Heights to the East and the Naftali mountains to the West. The Jordan River runs through the valley, with a variety of wildlife along its banks. The location is only a short drive from Safed, Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee. The rooms are modern, with air conditioning, bathroom and showers. Kosher meals will be served in the dining room. Eligibility The camp is open to Hebrew and English speaking students from around the world who are science oriented and have just finished the 10th or 11th grade. Participation Fee The fee for the camp is $800. This includes room, board, tuition and tours. It does NOT include transportation to and from Israel. We can help you arrange transportaion within Israel to the camp. Some scholarships will be available.
