The Association for the Advancement of Science Education is situated in the heart of the Upper Galilee, far from the central part of Israel. This location carries with it both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, it is one of the most beautiful and scenic regions in Israel, graced with numerous nature reserves and sites for hiking, biking and kayaking. However, compared with other regions in Israel, the Upper Galilee offers limited employment opportunities and the local population is distributed into many small communities, making public transportation difficult. In addition, due to its closeness to the Lebanese border, the region has security problems, which put a strain on sustaining programs for youth during the afternoon and evening hours.
