Day one began around five a.m.
(actual walking began only around seven) with a view of the Small Crater.
(Abba putting on his backpack for the first time).
From the small crater we walked to Tzafir stronghold, (parts of it are shown in this picture) continued to Ma'ale Yamin and descended to Wadi Hatira.
Carried on inside Wadi Hatira
to Ma'ale Palmakh.
(Ayla at the top of Ma'ale Palmakh)
From there it wasn't long before we found ourselves in Ein Yorqe'am,
(much earlier then first anticipated). The place seemed to be under long-term neglect;
with signs all crossed out, and marks where an old ladder has been. (stairs that where carved in stone during a more looked after time in
Ein Yorqe'am)
We were supposed to spend the night by "Oron" Phosphate Plant, where we could get water.
But we felt too embarrassed showing up before 2 in the afternoon, already looking for a place to sleep. So we walked slowly by the train tracks, passing the time until the sun had set a little.
The night was pretty uneventful, if you count out the loudest and most irritating combination of noise between a siren and a horn that kept going on intermittently through out the entire night. But then again we were just starting a 6 days trek in the desert, so who were we to complain.
