Monica Bradsher has been a pioneer in developing curricula that take advantage of computers and in leading technology workshops for teachers. After ten years as a classroom teacher in grades 3-9, she joined the staff of the National Geographic Society and guided development of their first software programs for schools.
A decade ago, she founded National Geographic Kids Network, which has involved more than 1.5 million children and their teachers in 49 countries in doing telecollaborations about environmental topics. Back in the 1960s and early 70s, as the wife of an American newspaper correspondent, Monica lived in India, Russia, and Hong Kong and had the opportunity to travel widely.
In the last few years she has combined her longtime interest in developing countries with her experience in applying educational technology. She serves as an independent consultant to schools, USAID, and the World Bank in addition to her continuing work with National Geographic Kids Network and teaching at the University of California, Irvine.
