| Position: | I graduated from the Moscow State University as a mathematician and soon after that came to the Moscow Institute of New Technologies in Education (INT). I am a computer teacher at the Moscow school #57, and am a coordinator of the National Geographic Kids Network in Russia and a teacher trainer for Off-line Russian Kids Network, and took part in translating and adapting Kids Network materials for Russian schools. I am also a part-time Logo teacher-trainer and wrote two books of Logo projects for the primary and middle school.I have experience in both developing and working in collaborative projects of different levels, starting from the classroom projects, to large interschool projects involving seminars and exhibitions. |
| City and Country: | Moscow, Russia |
| Proposed Projects: | My idea is a simple and an old one, to exchange Logo projects on a specific theme that is of interest to kids living in different places. Logo is a popular educational software all around the world, and allows expression without a language barrier. The theme of the project is to involve students in learning geography, both of places they live and other regions by means of a "Virtual Journey". The project starts with "getting acquainted": students prepare Logo projects to introduce themselves, their class, and their school. They can make drawings, scan pictures, make animations and record sounds and music. The next stage is to decide what the students are going to present and what they want to learn about the city their teammates are from. Students can do a poll of the kids in their school to decide what are the most popular things to see in their community. The teacher can make math and graphing activities out of the poll project. Students research the place their teammates live and pose questions about sites they are interested in learning more about. Next they collect data and make projects presenting both sites. The project can end with creating a computer album of the "Virtual Journey". |
| Partners: | I think the project would be most fruitful with teachers and students who already have some experience in Logo, so they can concentrate on the research content of the project and they could feel free in expressing themselves in multimedia projects. |
