Name: Jeffry Gottfried, Ph.D.
School/Institute: Oregon Museum of Science and Industry
Position: I am Vice President for Science Programs at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. I am responsible for all science education programs. They include science and technology classes, residential science camps in the high desert, mountains and sea coast, teacher education (including a project that assists elementary teachers in integrating telecommunications into curriculum to enhance inquiry learning), science clubs and outreach. My own formal science education is in biology and ecology. My master's thesis was an ecological study of birds of prey. My Ph.D. dissertation was an ecological/ethological study of children in a science museum.
City and Country: Portland, Oregon USA
Proposed Project: Connect Hancock Field Station, our science camp located within the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, in the high desert of Central Oregon, to similar environmental education field sites in Israel and other countries. I would like for students that are active at both sites to communicate with one another and compare and contrast their environments across many themes and variables including: weather/climate, soils, geology, paleontology, archeology, botany, etc.
